Roy Acuff
I took this picture at one of St.Louis's old stately theaters back in the mid 50's. That's Jimmy Riddle on the harmonica, Howdy Forester on the fiddle and of course Bashful Brother Oswald on the dobro. I'm not sure what the names of the other two are. Roy frequently had a yoyo with him that he would play around with. I can't see whether he had one during this performance. Roy was also a fiddler and would sometimes balance the bow on his chin. At any rate, this group was Roy's Smokey Mountain boys in the mid 1950's. John had invited me down to Nashville to join him for a Smokey Mountain Boys reunion back in in the summer of 99'. Unfortunately it never came to be. I believe it got postponed and John wound up having to go to California for his part with the Oh' Brother Where Art Thou film. I would give my right arm to have gotten to hear the stories that must have been told during these guys reunion.
