Tommy Jarrell - 1984

"Kittie Clyde"

Here is a great little piece of Appalachian music history. This video clip is sourced from a home video taped at Tommy's house in Mount Airy, North Carolina in October 1984. It was taped by Stephen Barasch whom you will hear singing a little bit of the song. The official name of this video is "Visits With Tommy Jarrell - Solo Fiddle & Stories, Volume 3. The video was produced and edited by Heath Curdts at Palmer Media - Santa Clara, California - (707) 576-7633. I don't believe the tapes are available at the present time. From time to time, I will provide some different clips from this three volume set. The first clip I am showing you here is the sixth tune Tommy performs on volume 3 of the 3 tape set. This volume appears to have been taped in his backyard. I remember when this tune use to be played on the Grand Ole Opry many years ago.  I believe it may have been performed by Grandpa Jones and was called Katie Cline. I would never have been able to provide this historical video clip had it not been for one of our dedicated Old - Time music enthusiasts from this list. There are close to three and a half hours of video showing Tommy performing over fifty different songs on these three tapes. Let's hope that these tapes become available to the public again sometime soon. I have emailed Heat Curdts and he says that it may be released as a DVD set sometime. It wouldn't hurt to write him and let him know you heard about it and would be very interested in getting a copy. Just follow the link below to find and address to email him at.
