John Hartford Memorial Songbook Project
1 to 2 days old about a week old older than a week
I think there are about a dozen folks signed up now to work on the songbook.
We have over 80 songs on the list so far. I think we are going to have our work cut out to try and narrow that down. I see there are 25 songs in the 1971 John Hartford Songbook published by Glaser Publishing.
As the songbook project progresses, I will post
all data that is submitted by everyone who is participating. It will be posted
in some orderly fashion on the private website for this project. It will be
private as much as we keep it private and not pass around the link.
I have posted mp3 audios of
all the songs suggested so for. This should help us make the decision on what
songs to put into the songbook.
All volunteers submit a list of 5 to 10 song
titles for book. As the lists come in, I will post them and we can pick how ever
many we want out of the most suggested songs. If anyone has any ideas how to
determine from all the song title submissions, which ones get put in, please
submit your suggestion.
All volunteers submit any suggestions they have
for the book's layout & design, and what is to be included besides the songs
themselves.
I think that all volunteers can be part of the
team to help in translation but we could use some help in design & layout.
People who are artistic and might be able to contribute some sketches &
drawings, people to help lay out the pages in a desktop publishing program,
people who might be able to hand draw the lyrics and tabs ( I will give some
examples of what John did on some of his records). I want us to try and put
ourselves inside of John's head as we work on this songbook. What are some of
the things that John would have wanted to do and how he might go about doing
them.
Settle on the quantity and list of songs to be
included in the book.
Investigate what software (speed control) to use
to help in the tab & lyric translation.
Setup a website for all volunteers to be able to download or listen to the songs that have been selected for the songbook. We now have the website going, with lots of information and music that people or sharing. I'm hoping that we can have our first song in at least a draft format by the end of January. Since I have not set any deadline and we are moving slow with this project, there is still plenty of time for more people to come on board. jkh
